Administrative and technical work in providing reference and advisory services to library patrons; all other related work as required.
Manages computer and technology related patron services; maintains the library's reference collection; and assists with maintenance of library's network reporting process.
Supervision:
Works under the general direction of the Library Director and Assistant Library Director.
The employee is familiar with the work routine and uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently with specific instructions.
Reviews and checks of the employee's work are applied to an extent sufficient to keep the supervisor aware of progress, and to ensure that completed work and methods used are technically accurate and that instructions are being followed.
Judgment:
Numerous standardized practices, procedures, or general instructions govern the work and, in some cases, may require additional interpretation.
Judgment is needed to locate, select and apply the most pertinent practice, procedure, regulation or guideline.
Job Environment:
Work is conducted in a typical office or indoor setting, involving everyday discomforts typical of indoor environments, with infrequent exposure to outside elements.
Work environment is quiet to moderately noisy.
Some evening and weekend work will be required as part of incumbent's regular work week.
Operates office equipment including telephone, fax, computers, scanners and copiers.
Errors could result in delay of service delivery or adverse public relations.
Has frequent contact with Library patrons, co-workers and vendors requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate work efforts, provide information and assess and resolve research problems.
Contacts are in person, by phone, e-mail and in writing.
The employee has regular access to a wide variety of confidential information, including library patron records and borrowing history in accordance with the State Public Records Law.
Essential Functions:

) Maintains the database of library holdings, creating short marc records, attaching materials to existing records, and deleting materials.
Supports all computer technology within the library and provides technical support to patrons, staff and library volunteers.
Provides reference services; assists patrons with requests for information or materials; assists patrons in the selection of materials; searches sources; provides referrals; teaches patrons how to use the library, computer resources, on-line catalog, eResources including downloadable eBooks, eAudiobooks, and related resources and borrowing from other libraries.
Processes interlibrary loan requests for patrons and other libraries; maintains ILL records.
Processes various documents (interlibrary loan requests, borrower registrations) based on knowledge of library functions and requirements.
Prepare monthly and annual circulation reports using CLAMS reports and other statistical reports.
Provides back up to circulation desk employees.
Checks materials in and out at the circulation desk; registers new patrons; answers telephone; assists patrons with reserve and overdue materials; assesses and collects fines.
Assists with creation and distribution of press releases, flyers, and other publicity for library events and services.
Must be available to attend professional meetings and conferences to keep abreast of current professional developments in Technical Services and technology.
Must be available to work some evenings and Saturdays in rotation.
Performs miscellaneous typing; shelves library materials and periodically reads shelves; makes photocopies; collaborates on special projects.
Interacts appropriately with patrons of all ages to maintain an appropriate library atmosphere, provides information and assistance to tourists, and responds to complaints of inappropriate behavior.
Performs any other similar or related duties as directed by the Library Director or Assistant Library Director.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's Degree, with a Master's Degree in Library Science preferred and three to five years of library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Ability and Skills:
Knowledge.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work; knowledge of MARC format and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) are required.
Abilities.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious interpersonal relationships with patrons and staff of diverse backgrounds and age levels.
Skills.
Skill in planning and organization.
Skill in operating a variety of office equipment, including computers, and strong attention to detail.
Reference skills, especially in electronic formats; effective customer service skills.
Proficient written and oral communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Little or no physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing.
There may also be some occasional lifting of objects such as books, and department equipment.
Positionrequires the application of basic motor skills for activities such as:
operating a personal computer and/or most other office equipment, keyboarding, word processing, moving or lifting library equipment, and reaching in order to retrieve library books or materials.
Position requires the employee to routinely read documents, and reports for understanding.
